All my microphylla Salvias have been outstanding this year. So much so that I've just had to cut the red one back again as it had blocked the path again. I only did it a month ago!

I have had to prune mine back a couple of times due to growing over the lawn edge, Icing Sugar had done well but not filled out yet.

That's a S.greggii hybrid isn't it? I have Raspberry Royalle (that is deffo an S.greggii hybrid) which is also slow to fill out. It has produced a few seeds though so I'm keen to see what they throw up.

Nothing, they just get on with it, I rarely feed any plant or shrub once its planted in the soil.
The clump has been there for probably 15 to 20 yrs, so is well established, but other than that .......

I'll just have to be patient, then:) The only H g that I've ever managed to keep alive were only planted a couple of years ago. They'll get a barrow-load of FYM tomorrow, though, and a few words of encouragement:biggrin:
You must be sooo proud of yours!

Yes from seed @val, probably back in the mid to late 80s.
Worth it because you get a small caudex form from very early on.

They could have been much bigger by now but pot size has held them back.
If I go any bigger pot wise I wont be able to lift them in and out the greenhouse.

Lesser plants would not have put up with the root restriction that these have.
