MY spade. Lets face it its the thing I use most. I cannot think of any tool I have used for as long a period or to do as much work with. Some years ago my wife bought me a stainless steel spade and it is wonderful. Nicely balanced easy to work with. I started back on vegetable growing after a gap of over 10 years and the other week I looked back at a bean trench I had opened up. In just less than an hour I must have shifted several tons of soil - you get a real sense of satisfaction and I was pleased that I could still do it after my by pass op last year, but you need a good tool for the job. If you don't have a stainless steel spade, save up for one.

My hoe. I use it more than anything else and can't remember when I last used a spade. Only use a fork when I'm spreading manure. Have at long last realised that most of the tools we buy are never used.

[IMG] Now I have no veg patch anymore, my favourites are my hand fork & trowel & my secatuers... [IMG] Oh, and an old small hoe that I ground down & put a short handle on & use it as a hand-hoe for the flower beds.... ;) :D

My dutch hoe. It's about 60 or 70 years old, sharp as can be and has a lovely long and nicely shaped and balanced handle. I'd never be able to find a replacement. My other favourite is my garden fork, again about 60 or 70 years old, with tines as sharp as needles and a well worn handle.
